abstract = "The coffee production has a great socioeconomic importance for
Brazil, although the use of orbital data for its monitoring is
still low. Remote sensing data, such as vegetation indexes, can be
used to evaluate hydric stress, biomass and crop growth. However,
there is a need of correcting the attenuating atmospheric effects
from the reflectance in the atmosphere in order to obtain precise
values. Several atmospheric correction techniques are proposed by
literature and the objective of this research was to evaluate the
obtained NDVI in coffee areas through three methods of atmospheric
correction. It was assessed 211 spots in coffee areas from Santo
Antonio do Amparo-MG for the years 2014 and 2015. The results
showed high correlation between the methods (R˛=0,94). The 6S and
Landsat CDR models presented higher differences in NDVI values
than the DOS1 and the top of atmosphere methods. The analyzes
revealed that the DOS1 atmospheric correction and the top of
atmosphere data underestimate the NDVI values in all images
studied. It was verified the influence of the atmospheric
correction method on NDVI obtainment, with variations of up to
14.8% in the final values. Therefore, it is recommended, whenever
possible, the use of physical correction methods in NDVI
calculations or in coffee areas in the studied region.",
